How quickly can you provide temporary support?
It depends on how booked we are and who we have available to cover that’s close to your establishment. Sometimes we can have a chef to you within a day, and sometimes it can take up to a week.

How long can you support for?
For as long, or as little as you need. You tell us the time-frame and we’ll handle the scheduling.

Do you have FOH and BOH Staff?
At the moment, we only have chefs available on our 86’Relief Team. However, we network with a bunch of FOH pro’s and we’re happy to point you in the right direction to find FOH help on a temp basis.

What is the cost of the 86’Relief Team?
We base our pricing depending on the position our chef will be covering, these positions are based on kitchen seniority; non-management (line cooks), mid-management (sous chef) and management (exec chef). Please get in touch with us directly to get the exact dollar amounts. Our company fee will be included in the rate we quote you.

Do you charge for overtime + holidays?
Yes, for any hours worked over 40 hours per week, we charge an overtime rate of 1.5x the agreed upon hourly rate. For any hours worked on holidays which are outlined in our contract, we charge 1.5x the agreed upon rate.

How does billing / hours approval work?
You will be sent a summary and detailed copy of the hours worked by the chef we sent you. We send our timesheets to you for review and approval every Monday following a completed week Once you review and approve of the hours, we will bill via ACH or offer a payment portal for you to pay. Sorry, but we don’t accept check payments.

Can I hire my 86’Relief staff full-time?
You sure can! Let us know if you wish to present a full-time job offer and we’ll discuss it with the chef.

Do you recruit for restaurants only?
We cover restaurants, hotels, bars, bakeries, country clubs, food trucks, and catering events - anyone or any business that needs a helping hand. We’re often found helping with weddings, corporate events, staff parties, etc.

Is there a minimum for weekly hours?
For catering events, we ask for a minimum of 8 hours for the days you need help for. If you need coverage for 4 or more days (full-time assignments), we require a minimum of 40 hours per week. We can sometimes accommodate a part-time schedule.

What’s the recruiting process?
Start by sending us a message and copies of your resume and a valid ServSafe certificate. Once you send us these, we ask for your permission to contact your references and conduct a criminal background check. If you have serious felonies, you will not be able to proceed - something doesn’t mesh with criminals and cooking with fire, you know? Once you pass the checks, we’ll schedule you for an interview - either in person or video chat.

What if I don't have a ServSafe certificate?
You must! We will reimburse you for the cost obtaining the certificate if you work with us for over 4 weeks or complete 4 assignments for our clients (whichever is sooner). If you have an equivalent food hygiene certificate of a ServSafe we accept this too.

Can I decide my schedule and time off?
Each assignment will have normal days off during the week. If you need additional time off during the assignment, try to let us know as soon as possible. Other than that, prep the margaritas because you can take vacation whenever you need to. Your shift times will change for each new assignment, so having a flexible schedule is to your advantage.

Am I employed by Maine Cater?
No, you are a 1099 Independent Contractor (IC). You don’t have to be a business or need anything special to be an IC. If you are a 1099, you are responsible for paying your taxes but you will be able to deduct more expenses. We do cover you under our insurance policies though because we want to make sure you are safe on the job. For more info about IC status, contact us.

How much money, honey?
We set minimum rates for certain positions and experience level. If you work more than 40 hours in a week or work on holidays, you'll be paid overtime on that rate. The hourly rates for assignments range from $20.00 - $30.00/hour.

How do I get to work?
You must have a reliable car or mode of transportation to work assignments, unless you can teleport back and forth from work, now wouldn’t that be cool?

How do I get paid?
You will be paid every Friday via direct deposit. We do not send paper checks because it’s 2019.

What about holidays?
If you do work a holiday, you will be paid holiday pay of 1.5x. Our holidays are - New Year's eve, New Year's day, Easter, Memorial day, Independence day, Labor day, Thanksgiving day, Friday following Thanksgiving day, and Christmas day.

I LOVE my assignment! Can I stay?
If it’s true love on both sides, you can ask us to help negotiate a job offer or you can do it solo. It's pretty common for our clients to present job offers to our team.

I’m not a chef, can I still join the 86'Relief Team?
At this time, we only accept chefs to join our 86’Relief Team.

What type of establishments do I go to?
As every assignment is different, you must be comfortable with change and going with the flow. We work with hotels, restaurants, bars, bakeries, catering co’s, food trucks, country clubs, cafes etc, for all of their staffing needs. At least you won’t get bored.

I'm ready to apply, what's next?
Say hi and get in touch.
